Next provided Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) services for the refurbishment of the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) offices and worked collaboratively with the client, Bokor Architecture and other consultants ensuring the seamless integration of the design and construct process.
Next’s input into the design process involved selection of materials, their sourcing and availability; identification of savings; reviewing and monitoring of the design as it developed; and liaison with subcontractors to identify costs savings or alternatives from the initial design.
Delivered to a high quality on time and on budget, the refurbishment of the AOC offices was a repeat project for Next working with Bokor Architecture.
All work was undertaken within a live environment as the AOC is located on Level 4 of the Museum of Contemporary Art building in The Rocks and involved extensive coordination of all materials handling to minimise disruption to tenants and patrons of the art gallery.
The scope of works involved demolition of the existing fitout and installation of new doors, glazing and partition walls. Electrical and fire services were upgraded and minor modifications undertaken to existing mechanical services. The project also included the supply and installation of new workstations, joinery and loose furniture.
A major feature of the refurbishment are the custom designed and manufactured cabinets displaying torches from every Summer Olympic Games. Australia is only one of five countries to have attended every Games.
