Next delivers high-end fitout of new landmark restaurant in Barangaroo

Next successfully delivered ten days ahead of schedule the high-end environmentally sustainable fitout for 12-Micron, the latest addition to the dining scene at Barangaroo.

Located in Tower 1 at Barangaroo, 12-Micron was constructed to the precinct’s 6 Star Green Star sustainability strategy. The fitout was particularly challenging as it was undertaken while works to the tower building and its surrounds were ongoing.

The contemporary 230-seater restaurant, late-night dessert kitchen and bar was designed by SJB Architecture & Design.

“Next is proud to have played a part in bringing to fruition the client’s vision for 12-Micron, which I am sure will become one of Sydney’s landmark venues,” said Joseph Di Girolamo, Next Founder & CEO.

Next was presented with the shell of the 1200 metres square venue and the project scope of works included installation of a state-of-the-art commercial kitchen and pastry/dessert kitchen, cool rooms and integrated wine cellars, a bar and a controlled lighting system throughout.

The project involved major services coordination and management. All services were mostly set flush within the ceilings, with some electrical services run in the floor to accommodate the free standing joinery. In addition, the kitchens required large duct work for the exhaust canopies which have SMOG-HOG filters and ozone filters to lower waste emissions.

High-end finishes and fixtures were used throughout the venue and they included detailed natural spotted gum timber for the curved veneer joinery, which was sourced from sustainably managed forests, loosely laid natural cobble stones for the flooring and skirting, as well as custom artisan wall finishes. Other stand out features of the fitout included floor to ceiling windows which provided an impressive 270-degree harbour view and a combination of curved and hung fabric ceilings.

“Managing high-end fitout projects are a particular strength of Next project teams. These projects require coordinated programming by specialist trades and services, strict adherence to detail, multiple work fronts and they often need to be completed within a tight timeframe,” says Joseph.

12-Micron officially opened 1 March 2017.
