Next has been awarded a contract to design and construct social and affordable housing units in western Sydney for St George Community Housing (SGCH).
The approximately $30 million project for the not-for-profit organisation consists of two developments located in the adjoining suburbs of Cartwright and Miller with construction undertaken concurrently.
“Sustainable, safe and affordable housing is a growing concern in Australia and we are pleased to be working with SGCH, which is playing an important role in helping to address this issue.” said Next Managing Director, Rob Garling.
“Through our extensive residential experience and the undertaking of similar design and construction projects, we are confident we will deliver quality projects that meet the needs of future residents.”
Next’s OFSC accreditation was an important aspect in securing the SGCH project, which is part funded by the Federal Government.
The Cartwright development involves the demolition of six houses and the design and construction of two four-storey buildings at 12-22 Willan Drive.
The buildings mirror each other and each building comprises 32 units including 12 one bedroom units, of which six are adaptable units, and 26 two bedroom units. The complex will have on-ground parking for 32 cars with six spaces for dedicated accessible units.
The Miller development at 71 – 75 Cabramatta Avenue involves the demolition of three houses and the design and construction of a five-storey building of 39 units comprising eight one bedroom units and 31 two bedroom units with on-ground parking for 19 cars.
Construction works for both developments also include landscaping and associated infrastructure.
The project is scheduled for completion in January 2020.
